Airline: Alaska

Seat: 6D

Airplane: Boeing 737

My flight to Germany is departing from SFO so I had to take a positioning fly. I took advantage of one of the many sales $69 sales Alaska has on flights to San Francisco (I’m hoping this becomes the norm once Alaska closes the Virgin American deal).

I decided to take the 1:10pm flight since the flight wouldn’t be filled with many business travelers and I would have a good chance at a upgrade. Boy was I wrong…

I was 18th on the upgrade list! I have never been this far down on the list for a west coast flight. The troubling fact is this was a non-peak flight. I have a suspicion that this is caused by a lot of American Elites doing a status match due to changes to American’s frequent flyer program.

The flight overall was pretty uneventful. I landed at SFO a little after 3pm PST. When I did get to SFO I was a little surprised that I was in the international terminal. Apparently all Alaska flights use this terminal. I expect this will change once they consolidate with Virgin.

I booked myself into the Hilton Garden for the night. The total for the stay was 40000. I seems like a lot of points but I was sitting on over 200000 and the room rate was around $240.
