I’m going to be traveling for 10 days, visiting 8 cities, and 7 different airports. I’ll be in Germany for Oktoberfest and also visiting Ecuador. How did this crazy trip come about?

Well I was supposed to go to Europe in August for 10 days. I booked first class travel using Alaska Airline miles. In June a great deal to fly to Frankfurt from the west coast for under $500 was too good to pass up. So I cancelled my original trip and booked this one. I was scheduled to come back to the States on 9/20 and fly back to Seattle on 9/21.

Flying back to Seattle on 9/21 presented a problem. My flight returned to SFO in the evening on 9/20. The last flight to Seattle would have left me with a connection time of 30 minutes and that’s assuming my flight to SFO wasn’t delayed. So that left me with trying to book a hotel and flying out the next day. This wouldn’t have been a problem until I realized that this was the week of Java One. The lowest price for a decent hotel was somewhere around $500.

I began to look into my options and I just happen to see a good deal to Ecuador from San Francisco. Since I was not going to be in Germany for the entire 10 days of my journey, why not? I booked the flight using Thank You points and booked a room in the Hilton Colon in Quito. The flights are setup so that I only have a 2 hour layover in SFO. For those wondering here’s where I’ll be flying over the next 10 days:
